About UCCLT

Under construction .  Stay tuned.

The need . . .

The Upper Charles river basin has seen rapid growth over the last several decades.  We are witnessing the effects of  what happens when development  outstrips resources. The Upper Charles region has seen hundreds of acres of  the water shed compromised, and we are now witnessing the effect on the resource that provides many communities with the water necessary to sustain the region's population.

A known mitigation approach for developmental pressure is the preservation of  open space.

Who we are . . .

We are a group of local citizens who from communities surrounding the upper Charles river basin. First established in 1992 our objective is to preserve the natural advantages of the region through private resources. The UCCLT is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, broad-based in its support.

The challenge . . .

Open areas—the legacy of the land—are disappearing. We residents can measure that change from many aspects: the diminished sightings of once-plentiful wild life, the degradation of our ponds, and the many concerns about our finite water supply.

And our response . . .

UCCLT acts as an agent for the preservation of open space.  We advocate the purchase of  parcels of land to keep them in their natural state, and make most areas available for the pleasure of all.

We have a proven track record . . .

Since our inception, we have purchased or received as donations over 300 acres in the towns surrounding the upper Charles river.  These lands include: a marshland, areas fronting on ponds , woodlands, uplands and wetlands, scenic overlooks, and working farm lands. Where feasible, we are linking together purchases to form a “greenway,” cutting networks of trails to be enjoyed by hikers and nature lovers.
